Matthew J. DeRuyter
graduated
from William Mitchell College of Law (cum laude)
where he earned his Juris Doctor.
He
received
a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry from Lawrence University in
Appleton, Wisconsin.
Prior
to joining Kinney & Lange, Matthew worked as a Research
Scientist at CIMA Labs, Inc. in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, as well as
performing patent prosecution work at Ecolab, Inc. in Eagan,
Minnesota.In his free time,
Matthew enjoys cooking, swimming, reading, and spending time with
his family.

David
R. Fairbairn
is President and a founding attorney of Kinney & Lange. Dave is a
frequent author and lecturer in the field of intellectual property
law for such organizations as the American Intellectual Property Law
Association and Minnesota Continuing Legal Education. Dave was
President of the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association in
1995-96 and served as Chair of the Patent Law Committee of the
American Intellectual Property Law Association in 1996-98.
He is
licensed to practice before both the U.S. and the Canadian Patent
Offices and is a member of the Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu
Engineering Honors Societies. Dave holds a Bachelor of Electrical
Engineering Degree (with distinction) from the University of
Minnesota and a Juris Doctor (cum laude) from William Mitchell
College of Law.
An avid
tournament fisherman, Dave qualified for both the 1994 and 1995 MWC
World Walleye Championships. He also is a serious collector of
baseball memorabilia. Dave was lead counsel for SPX Corporation in
a patent infringement lawsuit with Snap-On Tools involving
automotive test equipment. SPX received a damage award of $44
million in late 2001.

Jo M. Fairbairn
is Treasurer of
Kinney & Lange and concentrates her practice in Trademark Law. She
has the distinction of being one of the first
women to practice law in Dakota County, Minnesota. She has also
taught “Corporations and Partnerships” and “Business Law” at
Metropolitan State University.
Jo
spearheaded the firm’s efforts to acquire and renovate the century-old
building that is now Minneapolis’ Kinney & Lange Building.
Jo
was previously a member of the Ad-Hoc Franchise Advisory Committee
appointed by the Minnesota Commissioner of Commerce to consider changes
needed to the Minnesota Franchise Act. She has also twice previously
been the Chair of the Trademark and Unfair Competition Committee of the
Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association.
Jo
received her undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the University
of Minnesota and her Juris Doctor (cum laude) from William Mitchell
College of Law.
